The AA to ask government to delay 2p hike in petrol taxes

The UK's motoring organisation, the AA is planning to ask the government not to increase tax on petrol by 2p as planned in April, arguing that it will harm economic recovery.

Whilst petrol prices have fallen from their height last year, they have not not been falling in line with reductions in wholesale oil prices. The last time petrol cost over 90p a litre in March 2007, wholesale oil prices were $68 a barrel. Oil prices are currently $45 a barrel, but petrol prices are still over 90p (previously reported in 'In the News' on 31 Oct 08).
