Petrol tax goes up 2p today

Petrol and diesel will go up 2.12p-a-litre from today after the government implemented a rise in taxes. The government had deferred the increase twice because of high oil prices last year.

Organisations like the AA had been calling on the government to defer the tax again, arguing that the increase will harm economic recovery ('In the News' on 19 Mar 09).
