Vodafone scraps roaming charges

For many years the cost of mobile calls, texts and data when abroad has been contentious. Today Vodafone became the first mobile phone operator to get rid of roaming charges for many customers. From 1 June, all of Vodafone's "passport" customers will be charged the same as they would in the UK when travelling in 35 countries. Vodafone says it will also decrease the cost of calling abroad from 'pay-as-you-go' mobiles.

New European Union rules come in to force from July to cap the cost of texts at 10p and the downloading one megabyte of data at 92p across Europe.
