Virgin and British Airways to cut winter flights

The UK airline, Virgin Atlantic has announced that it will cut capacity by 7% over the winter because of the fall in passenger numbers caused by the recession ('In the News' on 15 Jun 09). This includes suspending daily flights between London and Chicago, and one of its two daily flights between London and Hong Kong.

On Wednesday, British Airways announced that it was also cutting winter capacity. Flights from Gatwick to Rome will go from 2 daily to 1. Flights from Heathrow to Brussels will go from 7 flights a day to 6. Flights from Heathrow to Paris from 10 daily flights to 9. From Heathrow to Nice and Berlin from 6 to 5 and from Heathrow to Edinburgh from 11 to 10. However the number of flights from Heathrow to Warsaw, Heathrow to Istanbul and Heathrow to Rome will increase.
