Government to appoint 'Consumer Champion'

As part of a government 'White Paper' on helping consumers to be revealed today, the government says it intends to appoint a 'Consumer Champion.' This individual will have a high public profile and their role will be to help consumers fight for refunds and compensation when things go wrong. However, it is not yet clear what powers the 'Consumer Champion' will have.

Other proposals are expected to include measures to decrease the number of consumers falling into unmanageable debt, such as banning credit card companies from issuing credit card cheques (last reported 'In the News' on 17 Mar 09).
