Pressure grows for FSA to name the companies that mislead

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) rejected calls yesterday for it to name and shame 19 firms that were preying on consumers with misleading online advertising. 25 percent of the 77 websites investigated fell short of the FSA's standards for accuracy, fairness and clarity.

The news comes on the back of figures showing that last year the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), received 364 complaints about broadcast financial adverts and 663 about print adverts. The ASA has upheld complaints against Barclays, Alliance & Leicester, Lloyds TSB, HSBC, the RBS-owned Churchill Insurance and NatWest.
