Apple bows to pressure dropping UK iTunes prices

Apple has announced an iTunes price drop in the UK. Apple will bring UK iTunes music prices in line with the rest of Europe. As its stands UK consumers pay 79p for a single track and £7.99 for an album compared to 74p and £7.49 in Europe.

The news brings an end to the European Commission's investigation into the affair launched in April 2007. It also appeases the consumer group Which? who first complained about the price discrimination in 2004.

The European Commission were considering complaints about music downloaded by iTunes only playing on Apple iPods and no other device. However the Commission refused to take action as it believes Apple is "not in a dominant position in the market".
