O2 claims threefold customer increase thanks to iPhone

Mobile phone operator, O2, has announced a huge jump in customer numbers thanks to demand for Apple's iPhone which is only available on its network. O2 says that the number of people visiting its 450 stores throughout the UK has risen by 3 times in the last 2 months.

Mobile phone retailer, Carphone Warehouse, is also thought to have been boosted by the iPhone although a non-disclosure agreement with Apple has prevented it from disclosing customer numbers.

The news follows O2's earlier claims that customers of other mobile phone networks were switching to O2 in order to buy the iPhone, reported in 'In the News' on 13 November 2007.
