Energy market price 'collusion' to be investigated

Energy regulator Ofgem yesterday announced that it will investigate the UK's gas and electricity markets. The move follows successive price hikes from five of the 'Big Six' energy companies since the New Year (reported most recently in 'In the News' on 7 February 2008), prompting fears that there may be collusion.

News of the investigation follows the announcement by British Gas yesterday of a 500% increase in profits compared to last year, much to the exasperation of consumer groups (reported in yesterday's 'In the News').
