Calls to cut VAT on fruit juices

In advance of the Budget on 12 March, the soft drinks industry have called for a cut in the full rate of VAT (17.5%) on fruit juices. The industry say that the tax undermines the government's aim to encourage healthy eating. Innocent Drinks launched a petition on the 10 Downing Street website. It received 20,000 signatures and 59 MP's have signed an early motion supporting the move.
