BAA allowed to increase landing charges
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will let BAA increase landing charges at London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Landing charges can rise up to 23.5% for Heathrow and 21% at Gatwick for the years 2008/2009. This rise is expected to add £2 on ticket prices. BAA have been putting pressure on the CAA to allow them to increase charges because of the increased costs of security measures (first reported 'In the News' 21 November 2007). However airlines including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are unhappy with BAA's poor service levels (reported 'In the News' on 28 January 2008).
