BBC iPlayer hacked

The BBC's internet TV service, the iPlayer has been hacked by users. The iPlayer carries Digital Rights Management (DRM) software which restricts the viewing of programmes 30 days after they have been downloaded and 7 days after they have been uploaded for the online streaming service. However hackers have found a way to break the system, which allows them to keep downloaded programmes for an unlimited period. The BBC is working on a solution to the security breach. As reported 'In the News' on 20 February 2008, the iPlayer has been a success for the BBC with 17 million programmes streamed or downloaded since Christmas Day.
