Queen to open Terminal 5
Today Heathrow's Terminal 5 will be officially opened by the Queen. The new terminal is the biggest free standing building in the UK, it cost BAA £4.3 billion and 5 and half years to build. British Airways (BA) will be the sole occupier of Terminal 5, moving 92% of their 550 daily flights to the terminal. Virgin Atlantic have complained that BA will be the only airline to benefit from the new terminal. The terminal officially opens to passengers on 27 March and is expected to cater for 30 million passengers a year.
