Starbucks seek to improve coffee quality

High Street coffee chain Starbucks is to put hi-tech coffee-making machines costing £5,500 each in its cafes in a bid to win back customers. Each cafe is also to grind its own beans. The move follows a survey earlier this year in which Starbucks was found to serve the worst coffee on the High Street (reported in 'In the News' on 25 January 2008).

On both sides of the Atlantic, customers have been leaving Starbucks in worrying numbers, prompting the chain to look urgently at revamping its offering.
