BT to take on big players in broadcast media

Telecoms company BT is said to be planning to beef up its broadcast media service after it appointed a former BBC policy adviser as its first head of media and convergence policy. BT, which launched its internet TV product, BT Vision, just over a year ago, plans to take on established broadcasters such as the BBC, BSkyB and ITV. Last year, BT (along with Setanta, Top Up TV and Virgin Media) asked Ofcom to review the UK pay-TV market, accusing Sky of operating a ' "vicious circle" of control that crushes competition'.
