Social networks accused of not protecting children

Social networking sites are not doing enough to protect pre-teen users, accordingly to telecoms regulator Ofcom. Ofcom has found that around 2 and a half million 8 to 11 year-olds have created personal profiles on the internet, many of which can be viewed by anyone. This is despite leading networks, MySpace, Facebook and Bebo, having notional minimum age limits of 13 - 14.
