Carphone Warehouse rejects music industry piracy plans

Carphone Warehouse have rejected the music industry's proposals to police customers for illegal downloads. Backed by the government the proposals involve disconnecting customers who illegally download music and films through a three strike policy (as reported 'In the News' on 12 February 2008). However Carphone Warehouse, who own Talk Talk, believe that as an ISP it is their role to protect the rights of their users and use the internet as they choose. As such Carphone Warehouse plans to fight the proposals. Other ISP's such as Virgin Media and Orange are sampling various schemes with the music and film industries. The government has stated that unless ISP's adopt a voluntary scheme it will impose legislation by April next year.
