Faulty Gatwick weighing scales lead to extra charges

According to Trading Standards, 62 of the 321 (19%) baggage weighing scales at Gatwick airport were inaccurate showing bags weighed more than they did. This has lead to unjustified extra baggage charges for passengers. Trading Standards advise passengers to weigh their bags before leaving home to check a true reading and prevent incurring extra baggage charges from airlines. Trading Standards have concerns over the lack of transparency of several airlines and have warned that airlines would be 'named and shamed' if standards don't improve.
