Severn Trent fined £35.8m for poor service and false data
Water Company, Severn Trent, has been fined a record £35.8 million by its industry regulator, Ofwat, for supplying false data and poor customer service. The majority of the fine, which represents approximately 3% of Severn Trent's turnover, relates to false leakage data that it had supplied to Ofwat. However £1.1 million of the fine relates to Severn Trent's poor customer service.
In response, Severn Trent has promised to reduce its bills by £10.6 million next year - the equivalent of around £2.40 per customer.
