Abbey removes from 100% mortgage market
UK home buyers will no longer be able take out 100% mortgages. Abbey was the last mortgage provider to offer full mortgages but has announced its removal from the market. House buyers will now need a deposit of at least 5%. This equates to approximately £10,000 on the average house price. There are fears that 95% mortgages are also under threat. Alliance & Leicester, Britannia and Cheltenham & Gloucester have already reduced their maximum mortgages to 90%.
