BBC iPlayer success could bring down internet
BBC internet TV service, the iPlayer, is in danger of bringing down the internet, according to several internet service providers (ISPs). Such is the success of the iPlayer, which now accounts for 3%-5% of all internet usage in the UK, there are now fears that the infrastructure of the internet will not be able to cope. Tiscali, one of the UK's largest ISPs has called for the BBC to share some of the over £800 million cost of an infrastructure upgrade. The BBC however has refused, saying that it has been singled out because of its high profile and public funding.
