Refinery strike plans prompts fuel shortage fears
There are fears that fuel shortages could affect Scotland and Northern England as workers at Scotland's largest oil refinery have voted to go on strike. Approximately 1,200 workers at the Ineos owned Grangemouth refinery are striking over the decision to cut the value of their pension scheme and close the final pension scheme for new employees. The strike is scheduled for 27 to 28 April, however disruption to fuel supplies are expected to last for up to a month because of the technicalities in shutting down and restarting a refinery.
Motoring organisations including the Scottish Motor Trade Association warned of the possible disruption but urged drivers not panic, as panic buying is often the cause for shortages.
