Leading bakers call for increase in supermarket bread prices

The price of bread is set to rise by up to 10% after leading supermarket bread brands, Kingsmill and Hovis, called on supermarkets to increase prices to reflect the increasing price of wheat.

The news follows a report by the Office of National Statistics earlier this year that food prices are increasing at the fastest rate since records began (reported in 'In the News' on 15 January 2008). These costs are increasingly being passed on to consumers.
