In the News - Fuel poverty

5.5m homes could be hit by fuel poverty

As many as 5.5 million households could soon be experiencing 'fuel poverty', according to the consumer group, National Energy Action. As an Ofgem summit to discuss fuel poverty, attended by each of the 'Big Six' energy firms - British Gas, nPower, E.ON, Scottish Power, Scottish & Southern Energy and EDF Energy - and 7 government ministers, ended yesterday in what some are calling a 'disaster' for those in fuel poverty, it was warned that around £1 million more homes could be affected by fuel poverty if prices continued to rise.

The Government was last month accused of abandoning those in fuel poverty (reported in 'In the News' on 27 March 2008).
