Severe bank holiday rail delays expected
Travelers can expect more holiday travel chaos this bank holiday as Network Rail plan further engineering works. The west coast main line will be affected. There will be no trains from Euston to Birmingham from Saturday to Tuesday morning. London's Liverpool Street station will be closed on Sunday and Monday. It serves London Stansted airport. To get to the airport by train passengers will have to depart from Tottenham Hale station.
The bank holiday disruption follows major disruption over Easter and overrun engineering work that disrupted 120,000 passengers over New Year (as reported 'In the News' on 10 March and 2 January).
Yesterday morning overrun Network Rail engineering works was blamed for the trapping of 13 First Great Western (FGW) trains in Oxfordshire and the closure of the Oxford Didcot Parkway line. This caused severe delays to FGW passengers.
