Highest ever increase in food prices

Figures released yesterday by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), show that food prices are up 6.6% for the year to April. This the highest increase the ONS has recorded. Rising food prices comes at a time of rising fuel and utility bills. The Telegraph estimate the average household is £47 a month worse off than a year ago. This is expected to put further pressure on supermarkets to compete on price.
