Ofgem fuel poverty plans not enough

The energy regulator, Ofgem, have announced plans to help tackle fuel poverty. Under the plans energy firms would be obliged to share data with the regulator who would ensure that customers who qualify for a social tariff are on the reduced price deals. Rising fuel prices have pushed those in fuel poverty to as much as 4 million people. Fuel poverty occurs when energy costs account for than 10% of income. With more price rises expected in the summer, fuel poverty is expected to rise further.

The regulators plans have however been heavily critisied by consumer groups and watchdogs for not going far enough in tackling fuel poverty.
