Ofcom expect broadband prices to rise

Ofcom have announced plans to allow BT to increase the cost it charges its rivals for line rental for telephone and internet access. This is expected to increase the cost of broadband in the UK. Ofcom believe that BT's prices should go up to encourage firms to increase investment to maintain a high performance telephone network. However critics say that say that BT should only be allowed to increased prices if performance is improved. The internet service provider, Talk Talk (owned by Carphone Warehouse), argue that increasing prices will have the reverse effect on investment.
