HFW raises £87k needed to question Tesco on chicken welfare
Celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (HFW) has raised the £87,000 he needs to submit a resolution to Tesco shareholders concerning chicken welfare. HFW was left will the bill as Tesco's had already sent their shareholder papers in advance of their Annual General Meeting (AGM). HFW raised the cash through an online campaign and auction. At the AGM on 27 June HFW will present the case to Tesco shareholders to support the resolution that would force Tesco to adopt the RSPCA's standard on chicken welfare. Tesco currently adopts the poultry industry Assured Chicken Production standard which is lower than the RSPCA's standard.
