Big six energy companies warn of further price rises
Senior executives from the big six energy companies told the House of Commons yesterday that households should expect further big increases in gas and electricity bills. The news follows an industry expert warning of further price rises (reported 'In the News' 19 June). The annual average combined fuel bill has already risen this year to £1,050. An increase of 40%, which has not been ruled out by the energy companies could take average bills to £1,500. The price rises are attributed to the rising price of wholesale gas, which has risen by approximately 160% in the last year.
