Doubts that Network Rail can complete WCML works by December
The bus and train operator Stagecoach have aired doubts over Network Rail's ability to complete engineering works on the West Coast Main Line (WCML) by the December deadline. Stagecoach runs numerous rail operations across the UK and owns a 49% stake in Virgin Trains. Virgin Trains are planning to run 30% less trains from London to Manchester (using the WCML), until the engineering works are completed. However Stagecoach believe a more realistic timetable for the completion of the work is by Easter 2009. This follows rail disruption on the WCML over the May Bank holiday, Easter and New Year, reported 'In the News' on 29 April, 10 March and 2 January respectively.
