Severn Trent fined £2m for misreporting water leaks

Severn Trent has been fined £2m at the Old Bailey following an investigation by the Serious Fraud Office into providing false information about water leaks. Severn Trent pleaded guilty to misreporting leaks to the industry regulator, Ofwat, between 2001 and 2002. With 8m customers, Severn Trent is the second largest water company in the UK. The £2m fine follows a proposed fine of £35.8m by Ofwat for supplying false information and poor customer service (reported 'In the News' 8 April).
