Mobile user charged £31,500 for Prison Break download while abroad

A holiday-maker has received a £31,500 mobile phone bill after downloading an episode of his favourite television show, Prison Break, and some music tracks while abroad. Iayn Dobsyn who is 34 and an IT contractor apparently did not realise that his contract with Manchester-based telecoms company Yes Telecoms did not include unlimited internet usage while abroad. He received his massive bill when he returned home.

After consulting lawyers, Mr Dobsyn complained to Yes Telecoms and the bill was reduced to a more modest £229.

The news comes as mobile phone network operators are coming under increasing pressure from the EU to reduce the amounts they charge for data and text message usage abroad (reported most recently in 'In the News' on 2 July 2008).
