BT announces plans for 100 MB/s broadband for millions by 2012
Telecoms company BT has announced plans to provide "super-fast" broadband to as many as 10 million homes by 2012. The move, which is likely to cost BT around £1.5 billion, could see the current standard 'fast' BT broadband speed of up to 8 megabits (Mb/s) being increased up to 12.5 times to 100 Mb/s. In future, this could rise to more than 1,000 Mb/s. The increased speeds would allow members of the same family simultaneously to watch different high definition films whilst others were gaming or working on complex graphics or video projects.
