BT to close 9000 UK telephone boxes
Telecoms company BT is to close thousands of telephone boxes in locations throughout the UK after it revealed that many are used only once a month. BT plans to shut down about 9,000 of its 62,000 payphones, 60% of which are unprofitable. The move has met widespread resistance from campaign groups, local newspapers and politicians.
