Ryanair cancels flights booked via comparison websites
Budget airline Ryanair has cancelled the flights of thousands of passengers who booked through airline price comparison websites. Ryanair said the move is intended to prevent such websites illegally using Ryanair's flight information by 'screen-scraping' its website and to make booking easier for consumers by ensuring that it can only take place on the official Ryanair website. However, the airline has been criticised by consumer groups who argue that airlines should be making it easier to book flights, not harder.
Passengers will be compensated for their cancelled flights but only for the cost published on Ryanair's website. They will not be compensated for any surcharges paid to the comparison websites or for any hotel or car-hire cancellations that may result from their cancelled flight.
