In the News - Energy prices
Scottish and Southern Energy and E.ON price hikes announced
The Government has been urged to intervene after two more of the 'Big Six' energy companies, Scottish and Southern Energy and E.ON yesterday announced price rises.
Scottish and Southern Energy, which has almost nine million customers and is Britain's second biggest energy supplier, said that from Monday it would increase gas prices by almost 30% and electricity by nearly a fifth. E.ON, which has about 5.5 million customers, has raised its gas bills by 26% and electricity by 16%, from today.
The news comes after rivals British Gas and EDF Energy both announced price rises last month. The price rises by Scottish and Southern Energy and E.ON where widely predicted (as reported in 'In the News' on 8 August 2008).
