E.ON boss joke welcomes high energy prices

Energy company E.ON is in hot water today after one of its top executives appeared to joke that high oil and gas prices did not matter because they would mean more profits. The remark comes as the Government is due to announce a series of measures later today to cut customers' energy bills and to attack fuel poverty.

Since the new year the 'Big Six' energy companies - British Gas, EDF Energy, nPower, Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern Energy and E.ON - have announced a series of dramatic price increases, blaming the high gas and electricity wholesale prices (reported most recently in 'In the News' on 1 September 2008).
