Cost of Brown's energy measures to be passed on to consumers

The cost of government plans to reduce the impact of high energy prices could be passed on to consumers. The £1 billion energy efficiency package announced yesterday by Gordon Brown may only see 150,000 additional homes being insulated this winter.

However, a spokesman for the Association of Electricity Producers has said that, where the cost of the measures is to be borne by energy companies, these would inevitably filter down to consumers. He pointed out that this was already happeing with the green agenda.
