Mobile phone switching plans delayed by Court challenge
Mobile phone network operator Vodafone has won its legal challenge (reported in 'In the News' on 31 January 2008) against Ofcom's plans to make it easier and faster for consumers to switch networks. Ofcom had hoped to reduce the time it takes to switch networks from two days to two hours by next September. However, this looks unlikely after UKPorting, an independent company which was to oversee the switching process, has been forced by Vodafone's challenge to suspend its operations.
O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone have all voted to stop cooperating with UKPorting. The only network welcoming the changes was 3 Mobile.
