What a bunch of low lifes this firm are, they chased me for many years for a vodafone bill that I'd never had, I've been on Orange for years & prior to that Cellnet, talk about aggressive, I spoke to a female manager on one of the many occasions they called me & told her she had to a) prove the debt b) the debt as over 8 years old, she threatened me with all sorts but at the end of the day they can't put you in court if they don't have evidence, I just said fine see you in Court & I will wipe the floor with you, I sent them a recorded delivery letter telling them to stop harrassing me & I stopped answering the phone as they don't give up eventually it stopped BUT I've had a new landline put in within the last few days, ex directory & only my sister has the number, I had a call from BCW's 0121 number asking for a man I'd never hear of & then asking for my postcode, errrrrr I don't think so! They also use another name which I can't think of at the moment & started sending letters from that company which is at the same address...durrrrr!!!!!

Do Buchanan, Clark and Wells have the authority to enforce that an individual's salary/wage will be arrested should a payment be missed?

Due to becoming and remaining unemployed for over a year my Council Tax payments fell into arrears and the debt was passed to BCW for collection. I made a payment in April (slightly less than they requested) and then received a letter saying the were in pursuit of arresting my husband's salary.

I called them and explained the circumstances and as I now get paid weekly in cash I cannot pay over the phone with my debit card. Would it be possible for them to send me a payment book? Absolutely not!

As it is geographically impossible for me to get to their premises during the week and they are not open at the weekend it is obviously a problem for me to pay the monthly installment. Apparently no other customer has this problem and as a Giro account woudl cost them £2 per item they will not provide that either.

I am now going to call them to enquire if it would be possible to send Postal Orders as this is the only other alternative as far as I am aware.

Other than posting it through their door in legal coinage amounts - which I find very tempting - it is evident that BCW are not at all interested in anything but the £ sign and I feel that the employees are mercenary to say the least.

Although I hated being out of work, I'd have to be desperate to even contemplate working in such a cold and unfeeling environment and speaking to people in the manner they do is despicable. I felt like a criminal by the end of the call.

This crew are clearly using a database on which our address appears, but the person named at the address is someone we have never heard of. The name bears a remote resemblance to that of someone who left here 30 years ago, which indicates a pretty low standard of detective work, and that must be a bit of a disappointment to the people who are hiring BCW. "Sorry" is not a word in their vocabulary, and so it would be good to know if it is possible to find some way of achieving retribution.

Yes Jean, you certainbly can do something about this. Report the company to The Credit Services Association, the official body which BCW are a member of (www.http://www.csa-uk.com/). The email address is Claire@csa-uk.com.

The CSA is already well aware of the poor standard of behaviour of this company and will act on complaints. You may have to email BCW and make a formal complaint with them first (email to info@bcwgroup.com) but the important thing is - do not give up! They get away with this behaviour because the victims of this company do not persist in their complaints - it's your chance to make a difference!

BCW contacted me out the blue regarding a debt i apprantley owe to EDF Energy. I made the mistake of engagin in conversation with them and basically spoken to like a piece of dirt which was is unacceptable to anyone but when 9 mnths pregnant and somewhat hormonal can have quite an effect on you. Anyway i asked if they could give me a few days so i could contact EDF as i was not sre this was correct and was basically thereatend to pay up or we'll take things further. I then started getting valls to my home and when i wouldn't confirm private details they were very rude and evenhung on me. I complained about this but am yet to hear anything about this yet they have the time to send me more threatining letters. Anyway i hav made several complaints to them and will be going to the OFT about them. I have read many accounts on how badly they have treated people and i don't think they should be allowed to get away with it. I have now received a ltter saying they are sending someone to my door. With a 3mth baby this is somewhat worrying. Anyway have sent 2 more letters this week so lets see hwat happens.

since posting about this company several months ago,i took some legal advice,as the supposed debt i owed was not only paid off but had it not been paid off would have been over the 6 year limit for which they are allowed to hold info on it.i phoned them and asked them to supply the information held on me as is my legal right, and advised them that if they continued to harass me without the information,i would introduce my solicitor into the proceedings.funny i have neither received the information,or any more calls from bcw....convenient i think.i am still thinking of taking them to court for harassment.

I also wrote to BCW informing them i would be taking further action as the way they speak to people is nothing short of bullying. I also informed them i would be making an official complaint to the office of fair trading and i am waiting to receive a response to that letter. I was heavily pregnant at the time they started harassing me and it caused me quite some upset. I am still not 100% convinved the debt is legit but even if it was there is a certain manner in which you speak to people and BCW speak to people like they are pieces of mould.

Very poor company to deal with. My wife developed cancer this year and when I explained the situation to them regarding financial income, I was traeted like dirt. They could not have cared less and could not provide me with information such as CCA copies.

I had a negative experience with an employee treating me with disdain because I was in debt and Student Loans had commisioned BCW to reclaim a portion of my student loan.
After filing a complaint, I was contacted by another BCW employee who by contrast treated me in a markedly more friendly manner and was consistently courteous, amiable and convivial in a series of telephone contact until the portion of my debt had been fully repaid by BCW. As someone in debt I do not expect to be treated with disdain in the year 2007. Dickens wrote great literature about the days of debtors prison and I like to think we have evolved since then as a society in our treatment of debtees.

Pretty useless at giving information, the only line they have is "are you making a payment" final payment didnt go through on direct debit so had a call whilst driving. explained i would need their bank details to send payment to, could they email me the sort code and account number? no they could not, its only 2009, email is obviously akin to witchcraft in glasgow. so how do you propose i write when i have explained im driving to work, to make money to pay your dumb bill? no common sense, completely rude and unhelpful. sincerely hope the fsa shut them down

Received a highly rude and offensive phone call over debt which has been statute barred, before they attempted to avoid my exercise of my right to make a subject access request (To see all the data they have on me), after originally declining to tell me who they were, witholding their telephone number, threatening me with solicitors (action which would now be illegal) and bullying me into payment (also illegal) having caught me while in a rush, and ill.

Since my last comment (02-Jun-2009 15:21:04) there has been some development. I have been receiving letters for a lady who according to my Letting Agents moved from my address over 3 years ago. All the letters are from "Buchanan Clark and Wells" as the envelopes have their return address in "Andover" printed on the back; Must have had over 30 Letters over the last few weeks, since original phone call; All have been returned as "NO LONGER AT THIS ADDRESS". Got a letter today addressed to "The Occupier" stating their Tracing Department has located the lady (as above) as living at my address, my Letting Agents are going to write to them, so hopefully this will bring an end to the matter.
