The AA

A friend cancelled her AA breakdown cover as she was going overseas for a while. They suggested that the refund could be made by giving or transferring her remaining membership benefits to someone else. She chose me as the beneficiary. I already have AA breakdown cover but instead of extending the duration my cover they set up a second account to run in tandem with my original. There is clearly no benefit in having two sets of cover. When I queried this they said that nothing could be done. I told them not to renew my membership when it expired but they still sent out renewal forms. Have been an AA member for over 10 years but no more.

Recently ran out of diesel, and unfortunately the engine wouldn't self-prime. Called AA, man was there within literally 10 minutes, and I was away 5 minutes later!

Because one calls them when in trouble it is easy to over rate what they actually do. Good at their core business, less good as an insurance brand

European breakdown cover seems extraordinarily expensive - same price almost for two weeks as I pay for 1 year UK cover! Luckily didn't need it, though that just makes the cost seem even worse somehow :)

I was broken down in a garage, on the outskirts of Weymonth in Dorset. I had cover with the AA through a yearly subscription and called their main call centre and let them know of my troubles. Having just put the phone down and I was being called back by the mechanic who was only 5 minutes away from my location and turned up in as many minutes. Knew exactly what was wrong, and fixed it wih excellent customer service. I was on my way within 15 minutes of having contacted the main call centre!! Very impressed and pleased that I had chosen some true proffesionals to help me in my hour need.

Interesting to see AA Loans favourability on comments - I have my second loan with them, great APR and the six month free car warranty has already proved worthwhile. Wasn't pushed into buying insurance either which other providers try to do

I used another company a while ago and seriously regretted it. Nothing beats AA Personal Loans on rates and they are extremely helpful
